POLICE made 139 arrests across Herts during a festive anti-drink and drug driving campaign.
In Dacorum, 17 motorists were arrested between December 1 and January 1 - more than double the number caught last year.
Chief Inspector Donna Pierce from the road policing strategic unit said: “There are a number of people who continue to flout the law, and my message to them is, our work to combat this dangerous crime doesn’t stop now the festivities are over.”
Last year’s drink drive Christmas campaign saw 113 people arrested across the county for drink driving, while four people were stopped for getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drugs.
Police advise people not to drink at all if they plan to drive.
Those caught getting behind the wheel while under the influence of drink or drugs face a minimum of a 12-month driving ban.
