DACORUM has the second highest rate of sex attacks against children in the county, according to latest figures – with many of the suspects themselves aged under 18.
There were 50 offences against youngsters recorded in the borough in 2009/10 including rape, incest and gross indecency – only Stevenage had more with 53.
The figures also show an increasing trend in sex offences against under-18s, with a total of 373 recorded across Herts compared to 304 in 2007/8 and 306 in 2008/9.
Worryingly, 47 of the known suspects in these cases were themselves under the age of 18.
The statistics have been collected by the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) using Freedom of Information legislation.
