Crowds brave storms for the Box Moor Trust’s Conker Festival

Despite thunderstorms and downpours the Box Moor Trust Conker Festival was as popular as ever with both adults and children turning out to put their nut cracking skills to the test.

The crowd was entertained on Sunday by the Jolly Jazzers on Sunday, who donated their fee for the day to the Hospice of St Francis.

Elaine Rushton from the trust said, “We were well into the competition when, at quarter to two, the rain started.

“Thunder, lightning, floods and a deluge of biblical proportions threatened to bring matters to a dramatic early close.

“But we rose to the challenge and the action switched to the main marquee for the climax of the tournament.”

On Saturday, the trust hosted its Wood, Wool and Food Festival on Blackbirds Moor with craft demonstrations, livestock and local produce on offer.
