Conmen are cashing in by making phone calls to homes while pretending to be police officers or bank workers.

They persuade the person at the other end of the line that their bank card has been used fraudulently and get them to reveal their pin number. The crooks, who even suggest that the person they are speaking to can hang up and call the police or bank to ensure their call is genuine, then send a courier to collect the bank card, leaving them free to spend any money in the account.

Police have issued a warning in a bid to raise awareness about the latest con and prevent future victims.
