A teenage tennis ace will realise a dream when she steps out on court with some of the best players in the world at the O2 Arena next month.
Amelia Campbell, 16, from Hemel Hempstead, has been selected to be one of 30 Barclays Ball Kids at this year’s ATP World Tour Finals at the iconis venue in London.
Now in its fifth year, the Barclays Ball Kids programme is designed to thank and reward young people who help make the sport what it is.
Amelia went through rigorous regional trials and the final national trial at St George’s Park, beating off competition from more than 700 other young hopefuls to join just 30 lucky ball kids in the squad.
Amelia was selected by the Barclays Ball Kid talent ID team after her outstanding performance at the national trial at the England football team’s headquarters where each entrant was tested on their agility, endurance, co-ordination, balance, speed, ball-skills, teamwork and leadership.
She will now take to the court in front of thousands of spectators at The O2 in November, as well as millions of television viewers around the world and she simply cannot wait.
“It means the whole world to me, it is an amazing experience, it’s one of the best days of my life that I will cherish forever,” Amelia said.
Speaking about the trial and squad announcement, she added: “I was a little nervous, but I had a great day and have met loads of friends so far, whatever had happened it will have been a good experience.
“It is going to be one of the best days, or should I say weeks of my life, to be a Barclays Ball Kid at the ATP World Tour Finals at the O2.”
The Barclays ATP World Tour Finals take place between November 9-16.
