A woman who celebrated her 100th birthday every three months in case she did not make it to the milestone date celebrated her big day with two more parties.

Edna Banister, who lives in Dudley House, Bovingdon, finally celebrated her birthday, on Friday with a gathering at home where her neighbours sang happy birthday, gave cards and gifts and enjoyed cake. One of her pals Dot James, aged 88, read a poem she wrote about Edna.

The following day the celebration continued as Edna did it all again on her actual birthday at a family get together and meal.

The centenarian, who lived in Tring until three years ago, suffered a stroke in July, but was in good spirits on her birthday.

She said: “They are nice people here at Dudley House and good to be with and they always say hello.

“They are all marvellous.”
