Children welcome new feathered friends to school

A SCHOOL just finished its first term with some new classmates - baby chickens.

They made their home in the new chicken hen at St Thomas More Catholic Primary School in Greenway, Berkhamsted.

The birds were bought using a £365 grant from Herts County Councillor Ian Reay through his Locality Budget.

Mr Reay said: “I am delighted that the hen coop provided such excitement for the pupils.

“The school garden is a great way to teach children about growing vegetables and flowers, encouraging bees and butterflies. The hen coop has helped with teaching healthy eating, ecology and sustainability.”

Under the Locality Budgets scheme each county councillor is given £10,000 to splash out on good causes.
