Proposals have been mooted to build a new school in Berkhamsted.
At a meeting on Friday morning, plans to expand the town’s Westfield First School and Greenway School by 30 pupils per year group were described as “dead in the water”.
The plans had been announced by Herts County Council earlier this year as a way of dealing with a growing population in the town.
It was met with mass opposition by parents and teachers at Greenway School.
But at Friday’s meeting, Herts County Council’s cabinet decided that Berkhamsted people will be consulted on two new options.
The first is that the town should switch from three-tier to two-tier education, and the second option is that a new first school is built next to Bridgewater Middle School.
