A DINNER lady has celebrated 40 years at the same school.
Teachers and pupils at Bishop Wood School threw a tea party for Eileen Wilton to mark the milestone.
The 74 year old has seen thousands of youngsters pass through the Tring school gates, including her own children Nigel, now 46, and Jacqueline, now 44.
Mrs Wilton says the best part of her job is spending time with the pupils.
“Being with the children, especially this time of year is lovely,” she said.
She applied for the position after a pal told her there was a vacancy.
“My children were there at the time so I took the job. I thought when my children left I would move on but 40 years later I’m still here so I must like it,” she said.
During the celebration on Friday, December 3, children sang Mrs Wilton a song that they had written for the occasion and a member of staff had baked a cake.
She was also presented with gifts of a watch, earrings and £100 to splash out on herself.
Jon Hall, deputy headteacher at the school in Frogmore Street, said: “She has completed 40 years at the school which is pretty remarkable and the number of children that have been through her hands are well into their thousands.
“It is an amazing achievement.”
