AN unusual scheme encouraging students to recycle has been hailed a success after 200 tins of baked beans were scooped up.

The tins were handed out to students from West Herts College who, if they recycle them in special bins on campus, could win an iPad2 or iPod shuffle.

Dacorum Borough Council and the Hertfordshire Waste Partnership were handing out the tins on the college’s Hemel Hempstead and Kings Langley campuses last week.

The specially labelled tins are registered against students’ ID numbers, and winners will be picked through their registered tin.

The closing date for the prize draw is November 30 and the winners will be chosen at random for all prizes.
