A new gym designed especially for women by women has launched in Hemel Hempstead.

The new HealthyU fitness centre opened in Bennetts End with a taster day allowing ladies who are aiming to get fit or improve their skills to try out the facilities on offer.

HealthyU is a ladies-only gym offering a wide range of services including dieting and nutrition advice, four-week Healthy New U programmes, circuits and personal training with fully qualified instructor Jodie Reiss.

As well as a running club, cardio and circuit and resistance training machines, the gym also offers services including beauty treatments, a cafe and even a kids club and homework club to keep little ones occupied.

Samantha Harry, who helps manage the HealthyU initiative alongside Sara Scott, said: “HealthyU is aimed at making ladies feel confident and at ease during exercise and no matter what age, shape or size our members are.

“We welcome them with a smile and offer full support in a non-intimidating environment.

“The launch went really well – it was quite busy and we had a really good turnout.”

Things are going well for the gym, having enticed more than 75 members in its first week alone.

According to those behind the project, HealthyU’s aim is to provide a non-intimidating environment to ensure women feel confident and at ease while exercising – which is why you won’t find mirrors in front of any of the cardio equipment.

The facility offers a range of membership packages as well as day passes, and can be found at 1-4 Kimps Way, Bennetts End.

The gym is open Mondays to Fridays from 8am to 8pm and from 8am to 1pm on Saturdays.
