Harry Potter fans are guaranteed a magical white Christmas if they visit Leavesden’s Warner Bros Studio Tour this festive period.

As well as a seasonal makeover for the iconic set of the Hogwarts Great Hall – featuring the actual decorations and food props seen in the film series shot on site – the scale model of the castle-like school will be dusted with ‘snow’ from now until mid-January.

Parts of the Making of Harry Potter experience will be lined with Christmas trees and golden wreaths, and Potter film buffs will also recognise the hand-knitted jumpers that Molly Weasley gave to Ron and Harry for Christmas in the debut film of the series, Harry Potter And The Philosopher’s Stone. Other costumes on display will include the first Christmas present Harry received at Hogwarts – his invisibility cloak – and the dress Luna Lovegood wore to the Slug Club Christmas party in Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince.

The artificial snow used to adorn the breathtaking castle model – which is actually dendritic salt – will stay for an extra week after its initial deadline of January 6, when the rest of the Hogwarts at Christmas exhibition is due to end.

A spokesman for the tour said: “The dendritic salt was chosen because it clumps like snow and even squeaks when walked on.

“During filming, a member of the crew would have climbed aboard a cherry picker and put salt on the model by hand with a sieve – like dusting sugar onto a cake. The same process will be used at the Studio Tour this November and samples of the different types of salt used will also be on display.”
