A former mayor has been charged with 23 offences relating to the making and possession of indecent images of children.

Stephen Holmes, who stepped down from his posts as Dacourm borough and Herts county councillor following his arrest earlier this year, was charged by officers yesterday afternoon.

He will appear at St Albans Magistrates Court on Monday, September 10. Police refused to say what level of severity the alleged indecent images fall into.

Six officers raided the 60-year-old’s Woodhall Farm home in May when they confiscated computer equipment.

Conservative Mr Holmes, who has lived in the area for more than 30 years and owned a computer shop in the Old Town for 12 years, was Mayor of Dacorum from 2009 to 2010. He served as a borough councillor for nine years and was vice chairman of the Children’s Services cabinet panel and deputy executive of Children’s Services at County Hall.
