Two pals have had a nationally recognised charity symbol etched onto their bodies.

Lucie Lim and Cheryl Canvin had the Breakthrough Breast Cancer ribbon tattooed onto the tops of their feet to raise cash for the cause.

The Hemel Hempstead pair decided to take on the painful fundraiser after discovering that friend Heidi Elkington is battling breast cancer for a second time. The trio all went to Cavendish School together, although Heidi no longer lives locally.

Lucie, 33, said: “It is a constant reminder of our eternal support for the charity but also for our friend that has had breast cancer. It is a small sacrifice.”

The tattoos were done for free by Rob Dow from Classic Tattoo in London Road, Hemel Hempstead, last Wednesday.

Lucie said: “I have got two other tattoos and this one was the most painful one I have had done.”

Together Lucie and Cheryl have raised around £300 but money is still coming in and it’s not too late to donate at www.justgiving.com/thinkpinkduo

Nurse Heidi, who lives in Liverpool, has undergone some treatment and is now back at work.

It is thought that she will not need chemotherapy but might require some radiotherapy.
