A FAMILY fun day is being held at an adventure playground to replace funds stolen during a break-in.

There will be bouncy castles, a disco, coconut shy, a tombola, Irish dancers, a barbecue and lots more at Bennetts End Adventure Playground on Wednesday, August 31.

The event, running from 11am to 6pm, has been organised by parents of children who use the playground in Rant Meadow, Hemel Hempstead, while competition prizes and activities have been donated by companies.

Thieves broke into the playgrounds’s office between 6pm on Friday, August 12 and 8am on Sunday, August, 14, taking £850 in cash from a safe and making off with a computer containing children’s details.

Much of the money had been raised through activities to celebrate National Play Day earlier this month and the funds were earmarked to pay for new equipment and events such as Christmas parties for the children.

Group manager for resident services at Dacorum Borough Council Julie Still said: “I want to express my thanks to everyone who supported the whole team after the adventure playground burglary, especially the parents who organised the fundraiser and local people and businesses who have been so generous, they’ve really restored by fait in human nature.

“The family fun day will be a really great event for all the community, so I encourage any families with children to come along and join in.”
