Secrets from the local gardening world were revealed last night at Tring’s answer to BBC Radio 4’s Gardeners’ Question Time.

The town’s High Street Baptist Church hosted the expert panel which included five green-fingered individuals ready to share their horticultural know-how.

Chaired by Tring Town Council leader John Allan – also a member of environmental steering group Tring In Transition – the panel set out to answer questions submitted in advance before opening the floor to the audience.

The theme of the evening – a collaboration between Tring Allotments and Tring In Transition – was finding out how to make the most out of your garden in the typical tricky British weather.

Topics discussed included the most efficient way to keep plants moist, as well as which flowers are deemed best for encouraging bees.

Church treasurer Nicky Bull said: “The audience were happy to share their own experiences and tips, and a very informative evening was had by all.”
