A vandalised beauty spot in Tring will have its official re-opening after being spruced up by green-fingered volunteers.

Mayor of Dacorum councillor Herbert Chapman will open Tring Memorial Garden at 11am tomorrow and everyone is welcome to attend.

The garden won a Green Flag Award in July but was vandalised just three days after the coveted award was received, leaving Dacorum Borough Council with £1,500 of repairs to do.

It was the second time that the war memorial had been vandalised. It fell victim to a spate of attacks a year ago just after the borough council had spent £50,000 refurbishing it.

A volunteer group called The Friends of Tring Memorial Garden have worked tirelessly with the council to keep the landmark looking beautiful.

Councillor Julie Laws said: “The official opening is an opportunity for us to mark that success.”
