THE first instalment of a town’s biggest summer festival in years is under two weeks away.

Tickets have been selling fast for Grass Roots’ Spirit of Tring, two nights of entertainment at its Cow Lane stadium.

Marketing manager Nick Wake said there has been a last-minute rush for the event, which features The Great British Proms by the English National Orchestra on Friday, June 3 and The Music of ABBA with West End stars on Saturday, June 4.

“We have been checking ticket sales every morning for the last few weeks and they are flying out the door now,” he said.

The two-day extravaganza will be opened by the winners of the company’s Play Live competition, giving local bands a chance to play.

Meanwhile, the other two parts of the Tring Summer Festival are taking shape with the full programmes for the Tring Carnival from June 16 to 19 announced.

The four days of entertainment will feature Court out of the Theatre, hosted by John Bly and Ian Gower, three music events and a carnival.

The Tringe Festival from July 1 to 23 also has a busy list of comedians on its line-up and has announced the wannabe comics taking part in its Become A Comedian competition on its website.
