Green-fingered grannies and grandads who don’t have a garden of their own may be in luck after the budding of a new community project.
Jan Maddern came up with the idea of Garden Grannies and Grandads after she realised her own garden needed some TLC, but knew she didn’t have the time to devote to it.
She said: “I thought: How many old people live in a flat through no fault of their own and would love a garden to potter in?”
The free project – which has the support of Community Action Dacorum – will first focus on Hemel Hempstead by giving older people in the town the chance to cultivate someone else’s garden.
Jan is looking to pair families who don’t have time to look after their own garden with willing older people who are keen to get involved. For more information, email email@example.com.
