David Good puts the longevity of his 60-year marriage to wife Joan down to one thing: happiness.
The pair today celebrated their diamond wedding anniversary at Berkhamsted’s Ashlyns Care Home, where they live, as singer Jane Bishop performed the soundtrack to their life as a couple.
The final song in Jane’s repertoire was Happiness by Ken Dodd.
David, who is now 90, said: “Several people have said to us: ‘How have you managed to stay together for all these years?’
“I have always said it’s because Joan has been happy.”
He said he tries to be as happy as she is, after she taught him it’s the best way to be.
The pair met at a ball, and one of the first things David said to his future wife was: “Shall we dance?”
David and Joan, who is 82, now have three children and five grandchildren.
