AN American woman visiting relatives in Hemel Hempstead has stepped out in town dressed as a cigarette butt.
Joanna Cummings, 54, from Seattle, is staying with relatives who live close to the town centre for three weeks.
Back in the US she dresses as Nicci Tina, a giant butt, to support her Kick Butts, Take Names campaign, which helps people with smoking addictions.
Joanna decided that three weeks was too long for her to go without fulfilling her passion, so she took to the centre of town on Friday, before heading into central London.
She said: “I thought: ‘I can’t not do this for three weeks’, so I decided to bring my costume and do it here.”
Joanna was helped by Lara Wagle, who works in Debenhams and who did her make up for her.
The Kick Butts, Take Names campaign aims to promote freedom of choice among smokers and encourage them to take the names of anyone who can help and support them if they take the decision to quit.
Joanna started smoking when she was 12 and after she gave up she decided to help others. She now runs anti-smoking workshops back in the US.
