Sales boost for award-winning hospice

THE Hospice of St Francis is having a very merry Christmas this year - because a hospice nurse has won a national award and charity sales are booming.

Janet Willoughby, its care home practice nurse, and Jo Loney, a care home educator at the Peace Hospice in Watford, have been awarded for work on care home education.

The pair’s work influenced the content and delivery of a new End of Life Care Home Education programme, now being delivered across the East of England.

Janet and Jo have been working together for the past year in collaboration with six care homes across the county, including Alexandra Nursing Home in Hemel Hempstead.

Alex Esperanza, acting manager of the Alexandra Road care centre, said: “Taking part in the project has been a really useful and powerful way of ensuring excellent care for our residents.

“Janet’s always been there for us; it’s made such a difference.”

Janet said: “Winning this prestigious award is a fabulous accolade for the care homes and for our two hospices.”

Sales from St Francis Ebay site www.shopatstfrancis.co.uk are doing well too.

But the site is still offering a vintage Paddington Bear and vintage Fisher Price toys like a Mickey and Minnie Mouse and Rupert the Bear books from the 1950s.
