A police helicopter, the force’s dog unit and a number of officers gave chase to a man who fled during a drugs search over the weekend.

A spokesman for the force has since revealed that officers from the Herts, Beds and Cambs Road Policing Unit stopped a silver BMW coupe in Widmore Drive, Hemel Hempstead at around 7pm on Sunday evening.

The driver was in the process of being detained for a drugs search, but managed to run away from officers.

The man was chased and a number of police resources, including further crews, a dog unit and the police helicopter, were deployed to contain the area while it was searched.

A large area was covered, but the man has not yet been found.

Police enquiries are continuing.
