American visitor spotted in town

A bird that originally comes from America is believed to be roaming loose in Hemel Hempstead.

Marilyn Satchwill spotted what she believes to be a roadrunner in Leverstock Green.

"It was running alongside the car. I said what on earth is that and my husband said it looked like a roadrunner," said the 33-year-old, who was returning home from a visit to her mothers.

The pair stopped to try and get a snap of the bird but by the time they stopped the car it had made a hasty getaway.

Mrs Satchwill, of Chesham Road in Wigginton, said: "I thought nobody will believe us because you don't get them in this country. I think they come from America so it must be someone's pet."

The couple spotted the bird closed to Woodfield School in Malmes Croft, Hemel Hempstead at around 12.30pm last Wednesday (November 11).

"It's just the most ludicrous story, but we definitely saw it," said Mrs Satchwill.
