Church arson arrest

A man has been arrested in connection with an arson attack at a Hemel Hempstead church.

St John's Church in Boxmoor was left with 100,000 worth of damage after a blaze on Wednesday, October 29.

A 25 year old from Hemel Hempstead has been arrested on suspicion of arson and police bailed until December 4.

Flames spread to the roof of the Grade II listed building on St John's Road after a fire started in a shed outside.

Four fire crews spent more than an hour and a half trying to contain the blaze, that destroyed carpets, roof beams and a 150 year old Victorian stained glass window.

Police spokesman Olivia Finucane said: "Police are not looking for anyone else in connection to this incident at this time."
