New youth centre's official launch
Young people officially have a place to socialise in a town.
Tring Youth Project opened its doors to mark the opening of its revamped Temperance Hall on Christchurch Road in Tring on Friday night (February 5).
Chairman of the project and Tring mayor Penny Hearn gave the opening speech at the event, attended by trustees, councillors and West Herts MP David Gauke.
She said: "We have been open since Monday and I think we are doing very well.
"I would like to thank those of you who have helped us with this project.
"This isn't just a building for young people, but is a community facility and we hope groups in the town will come here and hire it."
The centre is being run by youth leader Dominic Bowers and his assistant Tom Wright.
Changes to the hall included fitting a large screen at the back to show films on.
There is also a pool table and young people have the chance to sit on sofas and play on games consoles.
It also has a quiet room, where people to sit and read magazines or listen to music, and a refurbished kitchen.
Mr Bowers intends to run the club from 3.30pm until 6.30pm on weekdays and an extra session from 7pm until 9.30pm on Friday nights.
He said: "There are lots of things for the kids to do and I cannot express enough how much me and Tom want to get this up and running in Tring."
