Sign of pothole madness

A fed up motorist made their frustration over potholes clear on Thursday by putting up this sign.

The driver pinned the poster up on Leighton Buzzard Road warning other motorists of "Hertfordshire Council Pothole Slalom Course".

The notice signed 'Tophe' pinned onto a pole by the side of the road, has a logo plotting a meandering route between dots representing holes in the road.

More than 5,000 potholes have been discovered on the country's roads since the start of the year and highways chiefs have reported they are discovering new potholes at a rate of 300 a day.

Herts County Council spokesman Jo Brown said: "We appreciate everyone's frustration at the damage caused by the ice and snow which is why we're

working as fast as we can to repair our roads.

"While the sign on Leighton Buzzard Road will no doubt raise smiles, we'd like to remind residents that the best way to alert Herts Highways to a pothole problem is by reporting it on www.hertsdirect.org/highwayfaults."
