Red Cross fundraisers have praised generous Hertfordshire people for digging deep to support their work relieving suffering in the wake of the Phillipines typhoon disaster.
Collections held across 15 Tesco stores in the county over one weekend saw volunteers totting an ‘amazing’ £21,800.
One volunteer said: “I couldn’t believe the number of notes being pushed into my bucket.”
Just £6 could buy a 10 litre jerry can to collect and store clean drinking water, £10 can buy a tarpaulin to make a temporary shelter for those who have been left homeless.
Donations can still be made through the website at www.redcross.org.uk.
