A zumbathon was such a success that organisers aim to host another energetic fundraiser in a few months’ time.

Michelle Bourne-Harris and friend Amy Garcia hosted Sunday’s two-hour session at Hemel Hempstead Football Club.

Amy said: “We had about 20 people turn up and I think we raised just shy of £1,000.

“It went really well and it was really high energy. Everyone enjoyed themselves and everyone got through the two hours.”

Qualified fitness instructor Lorna Finlayter, who teaches zumba at Hemel Hempstead’s Sportspace and other venues, gave her time for free along with DJ Deelite.

Michelle and Amy, who both suffer with panic disorders, were raising money for the mental health charity Mind – a cause they say is close to their hearts and they have doubled their initial fundraising target of £500.

Amy, who is gearing up for a half marathon in a few weeks for a children’s charity, said: “We did say if this goes well we will do another one in a few months’ time.”
