MARKYATE’S Beechwood Park School is gearing up for the next concert in its professional music series – Midsummer Jazz featuring Jo Wallfisch and her band.

The last concert sold out in advance, so fans are urged to book early to avoid disappointment.

Regularly performing at Ronnie Scott’s Upstairs Bar and other prestigious jazz clubs in London, Jo Wallfisch is one of the most exciting new talents breaking onto the London jazz scene at the moment. She recently released her debut album, Wild Swan, recorded with some of New York’s top jazz musicians.

Having grown up in a household of classical musicians, Jo has always been surrounded by music but her passion for jazz began at the age of 12 when she was introduced to a record by the legendary Ella Fitzgerald.

On Friday, June 22 she will be bringing along her three-piece band to perform some of her own original songs alongside standards by Norma Winstone, Thelonious Monk and Billie Holiday.

The concert starts at 7pm and tickets, costing £25 and £15 (under 18s) include a light supper. A bar will be open throughout the evening.

Parking is free at the school, which sits in countryside between Markyate and Hemel Hempstead
