Jobs up for grabs at town’s first Aldi store

Work is well under way to create an Aldi store for Hemel Hempstead due to open in November – and half the workforce for the supermarket has already been recruited.

But there are still jobs up for grabs with the discount food chain that is opening up for business in the town’s Redbourn Road.

Aldi property director Phillip Warner said: “Hemel Hempstead has featured on our new store requirements list for many years and we are confident that our discount format will offer a genuine alternative as well as a substantial saving on the cost of the average weekly shop.

“The store will employ a store manager, an assistant store manager and up to 25 store assistants. Those interested in working for Aldi will find further details via our website www.Aldi.co.uk. We have already recruited 50 per cent of the store’s employees from the local area.”

The new store, with 75 parking spaces, will be open from 8am to 9pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays. Mr Warner said: “We have received a great deal of support from local people in the build up to the works starting on site and we are all really excited about being part of the local community.”

Aldi is now seeking planning permission for a second store in the town at the former car dealership in London Road.

Mr Warner said: “We are working closely with Dacorum Borough Council and we hope to open in this location early next year.”

Hemel Hempstead will also be getting a new Morrisons supermarket in Marlowes, under regeneration plans for the town, which will also see a new state-of-the-art college campus created.
