A TODDLER group that has been running for 14 years may have to close because of a cash crisis.
Grovehill Babes and Tots offers a drop-in session at Grovehill Community Centre – where Lily Gilroy, right, got to grips with a pram yesterday – but rents have been doubled.
Organiser Pauline Stenton says unless they can get more people through the door the group will have to shut at Easter.
She said: “The rent has doubled in the last year and really we can’t charge people enough to cover our rent and the expenses we have.
“We get 12 to 15 people at the moment. We need about another 10.”
The sessions run on Wednesday mornings from 9.15am to 11.15am and currently cost £2.
Pauline says even a price hike will not get them out of the woods.
“You can’t charge people more than £2 a session,” she said. “Even if we put it up to £2.50 it will still not be enough. We can just about cover the rent to the end of March. If things don’t pick up by then it will be gone by Easter.”
