A youngster who dreams of being a professional ice skater has written a heartfelt letter to development bosses to keep the doors of Hemel Hempstead’s ice rink open.
Eight-year-old Ellie Carrington says in her letter that ice skating is her favourite activity and that the impending closure of Jarman Park’s Planet Ice is making her sad.
The Holtsmere End Junior School pupil says: “Please do not ruin my dream of being a professional ice skater.”
The youngster spent four and a half hours in the town centre collecting petition signatures as part of the campaign to save the rink, set for closure at the end of this month.
The Jarman Park site is set for a complete revamp but when works will start is unclear following the announcement that Capital and Regional has sold the venue to Tesco Pension Fund.
Ellie goes to the rink four times a week for skating lessons. Mum Jenna said: “She is so upset about this as her dream is to become a professional ice skater and is at her happiest on the ice.”
