Firefighters and highways teams are working to clear flooded roads

Waiting for Video...

Firefighters and highways teams are working to clear flooded roads this morning.

The county’s fire service has received more than 200 calls since midnight and are still responding to a high level of calls

Calls are being responded to as quickly as possible and are being prioritised in terms of risk to life.

Crews from highways contractor Ringway, working on behalf of Herts County Council, are busy organising traffic diversions and are pumping water from flooded roads.

Motorists are being advised to allow extra time for their journeys and must avoid driving through flood water as only a small amount of water can cause a vehicle to stall.

More heavy rain is expected over the weekend.

The latest updates are being posted on Twitter by fire and highways @HertsFRSControl and @Herts_Highways
