First snowflakes of winter fall as Water End pub supports hospice Santa Dash

The first flurry of the white stuff magically settled on the ground outside The Red Lion in Water End at the weekend courtesy of The Snow Centre in Hemel Hempstead.

Youngsters got stuck into making snowmen and challenging each other to snowball fights while the staff at the Oakman Inns eatery persuaded their parents to sign up for the Hospice of St Francis Santa Dash.

Manager Andrew Crutcher said: “We’re encouraging as many of our customers as possible to sign up to the Santa Dash to help those in need of care at the hospice this Christmas.

“We’ve already got our own staff team poised to dash the 2.5 miles around Hemel Hempstead, and we’re hoping lots of our regulars are going to join us.”

Hospice community fundraiser Andrea Grant said: “The Red Lion looked fantastic in the snow and we’re so grateful to everyone at the pub for the support they’re giving to the hospice.”

The wintry event on Sunday is open to all ages and registration costs £15 for adults, £5 for children or £35 for a family. Dogs are welcome and the fee includes festive Santa suits or reindeer antlers.

Entrants are asked to raise as much money is sponsorship as they can by running or walking the route.

Readers can register online here or call 01442 869555 for more information.

You can also register on the day before 9.30am at the Riverside Shopping Centre, cash or cheque only.
