The winners of this year’s Flamstead Scarecrow Festival spoke exclusively to the Gazette two days ahead of their victory.
Everyone in the village is invited to make their own straw creation during the Friday to Sunday annual contest, and the public choose which is best.
The one with the most votes wins, and this year it was The Gingerbread House – created by Lucy Miller, of Church Road, and her daughter Sophia, eight.
Lucy said: “The best thing about the festival for me is all the visitors who come to share in our beautiful village.”
There were 104 scarecrows in this year’s festival. More than 3,500 people voted and the winner got 838 votes. The event raises cash for the village church and the Herts Multiple Sclerosis Therapy Centre.
