A WOMAN has been ordered to repay thousands of pounds she stole from the elderly woman she was meant to be caring for.
Between March and July last year, Gintare Dedelaite, 25, of Chambersbury Lane, Hemel Hempstead, stole blank cheques from an 80-year-old Berkhamsted woman who had employed her.
Dedelaite cashed the cheques, which totalled more than £12,000.
At St Albans Crown Court on Monday, she was given a seven month prison sentence suspended for two years, and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work.
She had pleaded guilty to fraud at an earlier hearing.
Det Con Lee Hill from the specialist safeguarding adults from abuse team said: “Knowing the lady she was meant to be caring for was vulnerable, Gintare Dedelaite actively targeted her for her own gain.
“It was such a substantial amount of money and I am pleased the victim will get her savings back.”
