Man dies after being hit by car

AN 18-YEAR-OLD man has died after being hit by a car on Hemel Hempstead Road yesterday afternoon.

The accident happened near the junction with Appspond Lane and Beechtree Lane at 4.55pm.

The victim has been named in Twitter tributes as Craig Burns and a video has been posted on YouTube.

He was a student at West Herts College.

Principal Gill Worgan said: “To hear that a young life has been cut short in such tragic circumstances is always difficult.

“The thoughts of everyone at the college are with Craig’s family and friends.”

The car involved was a Citreon C3, which was travelling towards St Albans, and police have appealed for witnesses to come forward.

A Herts police spokesman said: “The pedestrian, an 18-year-old man, tragically died at the scene.

“Investigations continue at this time.

“Anyone who witnessed the collision is asked to contact PC Andrew Carter on 101.”
