A NEW market got off to a flying start as more than 1,000 shoppers came through its doors.

The Tring Artisans, Arts & Crafts Market was open for business at Victoria Hall on Akeman Street, Tring, for the first time on Saturday.

Market manager Claire Patterson said: “It was fantastic. We had a really good show of people.”

She already runs successful arts and crafts markets in Berkhamsted and St Albans, but said she was surprised at how quickly people in Tring took to the new one.

She said: “It is the first time anyone has done a market like that in Tring.

“We didn’t expect it to be so successful so quickly.

“Berkhamsted Market took two-and-a-half years to get that up to scratch.”

There is already a waiting list of stall-holders for the market.

Miss Patterson said: “We had all different kinds of stalls ranging from toys to jewellery and ceramics. That was despite the terrible weather.

“There must be a market for this at the moment and lots of people are trying their hands at new alternative forms of making money.”

The next market is on April 30. For more information, visit www.greatmarkets.vpweb.co.uk or email tringmarket@hotmail.co.uk
