Herts Air Ambulance was called to Maylands Industrial Estate in Hemel Hempstead today after reports that a man in his 20s had fallen and suffered a head injury.

The accident was classified a ‘red call’ – the most serious kind of emergency, with a target response time of eight minutes – after a member of the public dialled 999.

East of England Ambulance Service spokesman Richard Dunne said: “As it was a head injury, it was thought that advanced care might be needed. It does not look like it was as bad as initially thought.”

The injured man was taken to Watford General Hospital by land ambulance and arrived at about 12.20pm. The Cleveland Road accident was reported just after 11am.

Each call to the ambulance service is classified red or green depending on how serious it is. Green calls have a target response time of 20 minutes – or 30 minutes if the need for help is less urgent.
