A popular pianist is celebrating her diamond jubilee year as a member of the Mothers Union at Leverstock Green’s Holy Trinity Church.
Madge Field has been a member of the branch for 60 years and was thanked for her service – which includes playing the piano, making the tea, serving as a committee member and carrying church banners at services – at a packed May meeting.
The 89 year old, who has rarely ever missed a meeting, was presented with a certificate from Diocesan president Susan Roberts, flowers and a special cake made by a fellow member. In the previous church service, motherly Madge was also given a candle and sung to by the congregation.
The branch’s Eileen Adams said: “Madge has been a great support over the years. She says she thoroughly enjoys the meetings and, although now 89, hopes to continue to be involved as she feels the Mothers Union does a great job in upholding the values of marriage and family life.”
