Part of Hemel Hempstead’s Marlowes Shopping Centre was closed off for around an hour and a half after a sudden downpour caused drains to overflow over the weekend.
The flooding closed the north court of the mall on Saturday afternoon.
Lawrence Warren jewellers, Brow Bar salon, toiletries store Savers and the Sorriso cafe were affected.
Centre manager Vince Williams said: “The area was struck by flash-flooding following a sudden downpour.
“We closed it just so shoppers didn’t slip, but what was nice about it was that everyone mucked in.
“All the retailers came out with their staff and brought mops and buckets to help clear it up.”
The problem is thought to have been caused by the heavy rain filling up drains outside, meaning the shopping centre’s drainage also overflowed.
