A vocal harmony group who made it to the live semi-final stages of last year’s Britain’s Got Talent are fighting to be back in the spotlight.

Five-piece Band of Voices, featuring Hemel Hempstead’s own Andrew Playfoot, are trying an innovative crowd-funding tactic in order to propel themselves on to the mainstream music scene.

Andrew, 48, who lives near the town centre, says the ITV talent show helped the band gain a large online fanbase and millions of Youtube hits for their memorable auditions, in which they performed their own a cappella versions of Jessie J’s number one hit Price Tag and the Britney Spears classic Hit Me Baby One More Time.

But the dad of three says his quintet still haven’t managed to hit the big time, and are looking for supporters to help them release a five-track EP.

The record, which will feature original songs written by the group as well as some recognisable covers, depends on donations submitted by fans through the website Pledge Music.

Andrew said: “We have been trying to get gigs and deals but it hasn’t really worked out for us yet. We are all doing lots of things separately, working with artists like Robbie Williams and Jessie J, but as a five-piece it has been difficult.

“We work so hard and put in so many hours, and people are always asking us for more songs so we thought we would do this to try and create a physical copy. “We just want to raise our profile and be noticed in this massively competitive market. Who knows where it will take us?”

Andrew himself has been busy singing for the forthcoming movie blockbuster Guardians of the Galaxy and running his Dacorum-based Playfeet Theatre Company. He will also be performing around Wembley Stadium ahead of England’s pre-world cup friendly against Peru tonight.
