Two cars involved in a head-on crash in Tring last week were given parking tickets as they waited for a tow truck to take them away.
A blue Honda Civic and a black Renault Megane estate collided with each other outside Tring School before one of the vehicles hit a black Mercedes CLK which was parked nearby. Police at the scene recorded that the two cars were moved to the side of the road to await recovery.
But they were moved into a no parking zone outside the school gates on Mortimer Hill, and were both issued with a ticket by a passing traffic warden who accused of being ‘a jobsworth’ by users of the Everything Tring Facebook page. One said: “It’s ridiculous. It’s all about the money – no thought for the injured.”
Dacorum Borough Council’s Mike Evans – group manager for commercial assets and property development – said: “Our enforcement officers must by law issue a penalty charge notice to all vehicles contravening a waiting restriction and do not have the authority to decide otherwise. This is what the appeals process is for and all genuine cases are dealt with sympathetically.”
None of the drivers involved were injured or required treatment.
