A helicopter is due to land in the Ashridge Estate tomorrow to meet an ultracyclist who is about to ride her bike all the way across the USA.

Shusanah Pillinger is hoping to raise £5,000 for the Herts Air Ambulance by taking part in Race Across America this summer.

The event is considered to be the longest solo endurance cycling event in the world.

Shusanah is one of just six women taking part and if successful will become the first British woman to officially complete the gruelling challenge in the race’s 30-year history.

The non-stop challenge – known as the ‘World’s Toughest Bicycle Race’ – starts on Saturday, June 10, in Oceanside, California, and finishes in Annapolis, Maryland.

Participants will have to pedal 3000 miles across 12 states, climbing 170,000 ft.

Shusanah will have a support team with her along the way including our very own paramedic Erica Ley.
