There have been many weird and wacky entries to the Flamstead Scarecrow Festival over the years

Flamstead’s annual scarecrow festival takes place next weekend, and entries are expected to be bigger and better than ever.

Since its inception, the festival has raised around £100,000, whichhas gone towards the Friends of St. Leonard’s Church and the Herts MultipleSclerosis Therapy Centre– the two charities which organise the annual event.

A spokesman for the festival said: “Since 2002 the festival hasgrown to become one of the ‘must-see-summer-events’ in Hertfordshire, and many people come year after year because they simply enjoy it so much.

“This without doubt is due to the novelty and variety of scarecrows that we, as a community produce, and also due to thefriendliness shown to the large number of visitors that come.”

The festival takes place on Friday, August 15 from 12pm to 5pm, and the following Saturday from 10am to 6pm and Sunday from 10.30am to 5pm.
