The Hemel Hempstead sinkhole made a cameo appearance in the new series of BBC One prime time show Have I Got News For You.
The programme’s first episode was presented by comedian Jennifer Saunders on Friday and repeated last night, two months after the Oatridge Gardens cavity appeared and was filled in.
The clip showed foamed concrete being pumped into it through a tube during the programme’s satirical pretend news bulletin.
As it was shown, Jennifer said: “With the channel set to close down, BBC Three’s top creative team finds a new outlet for all their latest ideas.”
Comedian Jack Whitehall – who created and stars as a teacher in the channel’s Bad Education sitcom – is among a host of celebrities who have spoken out against the closure.
In one episode of Bad Education, Jack’s character Alfie Wickers takes his students on a field trip to the fictional Tring Ink Museum and Petting Zoo.
The comedian again mentioned Tring on TV when he gave it as a bizarre answer to a question he was baffled by on Channel 4’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year in 2012.
BBC Three will still be broadcast online after the TV channel is closed.
