Hemel Hempstead MP Mike Penning is calling for a new investigation into delays to the treatment of suspected cancer patients in West Herts.
In a statement today, he says the parameters of the most recent report – which in itself was quite damning – were set by the organisation responsible for the mistakes.
He said: “This is a devastating report into the systemic failings to patients and constituents at a most difficult time for them.
“It is clear that the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust took their eye off the ball and as a result patients have suffered.
“I have said from the start that this should have been an independent inquiry rather than one where the parameters were set by the Trust itself.
“The investigation must be independent if we are to have confidence going forward.
“I am also concerned that the same situation could be happening elsewhere in the country, especially if other Trusts are using the same software.
“With this in mind I have again written to the Secretary of State for Health and the head of NHS England calling for a further review which is completely independent of the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust.
“We must be sure other Trusts are not making the same mistakes.”
