A man was airlifted to hospital after being crushed by a lorry load in Hemel Hempstead’s Maylands Industrial Estate.
He had been laying between the lorry’s cab and load when the carriage moved and crushed him. He was able to move away quickly and seek help.
The ambulance service was called to Maxted Road just after 12.30pm yesterday, dispatching a rapid response car, ambulance, Herts Air Ambulance and the hazardous area response team (HART).
A spokesman said: “We treated a man in his 50s who suffered a serious chest injury.
“He was crushed by the lorry, but not trapped thankfully and managed to get out very quickly.
“He was anaesthetised and airlifted to the Royal London Hospital where his condition wasn’t thought to be life threatening.”
He added that the HART was there because of the danger that the lorry would move – not because any hazardous materials were involved in the accident.
