Network Rail has offered to paint the railings around a substation that it erected next to Berkhamsted Train Station to make it more in keeping with the area.
They would then be black or green instead of grey – but many still aren’t happy.
Berkhamsted Citizens Association committee member Paul Crosland said if Network Rail cannot move the substation to a less obtrusive site, maybe a brick wall should surround it.
He has written to Dacorum Borough Council – which was consulted before the structure was erected – to ask how the location for the substation was chosen.
The palisade security fencing around the substation was installed to stop people from climbing onto the railway line.
But Berkhamsted Town Council’s planning committee says the offer to paint it is not acceptable. It has now written to Network Rail to ask for alternative suggestions to how the substation should be screened.
